Anna Hering (1997, Germany) is an artist and researcher based in Amsterdam. With a background in architecture from RWTH Aachen University and the Academy of Architecture Amsterdam, her practice spans painting, immersive media, and spatial design.

Anna Hering creates paintings and immersive installations that invite others into her personal way of experiencing the world. Her works begin with encounters with otherness. Whether other people, places, or the nonhuman world, these encounters generate an emotional resonance that she seeks to understand, preserve and share with others.

Working across painting and immersive installation, Hering explores the same question through different forms of expression: How we relate to what exists beyond ourselves. While painting allows for intimate and personal encounters, immersive installations expand them into shared experiences.

Influenced by her background in architecture, Hering works spatially. Her immersive installations create conditions in which different ways of perceiving and relating can be practiced and relationships between body, environment, and perception can be explored.

Her paintings, ranging from portraits to large abstract humanoid compositions begin with the people she loves and encounters that remain with her. Through colour and form, she translates the way her subjects exist within her experience. Her paintings become containers where her memories and feelings can continue to exist.
